When was the last time you were in your stand an hour and a half before first shooting light? If your like most hunters, the answer to that question is never. Today's blog will focus on "sneaking around the whitetail woods" or in other words, hunting smart. I think hunters tend to overlook getting to and from their stand quietly. They often focus more and stand placement and all the other details of bowhunting. Being quiet to and from your stands is a cruical aspect of bowhunting success. As I always say, the hardest deer to kill are the ones that know they're being hunted. Now back to the beginning of the article, why on earth would someone waste their time sitting an hour and half before first light you ask?The answer is simple, it's to keep deer calm, relaxed, and unaware of your precense. By taking a calm approach to your stand that early in the morning and getting set up that early, you increase your chances of harvesting the buck your after. One of the main reasons your odds are in your favor is because the buck you're after could be a ways away and have no idea that you're in the area. Then by the time shooting light comes around, he has found his way under your stand without a clue of your precense. Now this scenario is just an example but the main focus of this article is for you to become more aware of the noise you make and the patterenability we get ourselves into as hunters too often. Face it, deer are used to hunters trying to sneak to thier stands 15 or 30 minutes before first light. I mean bucks don't get old being stupid. They're smart animals and they'll pattern your hunts way easier than you'll pattern him. By paying attention to small details like the ones shared above, you can stay ahead of your hit list buck and make sure you're the one filling your tag.
